Looks like there will still be cow tags for archery, just less days. I thought they were getting eliminated altogether. looks like a muzzleloader change too

The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission adopted new hunting regulations through 2020 for deer, elk, waterfowl, and other game species at a public meeting April 12-14 in Olympia.

Key changes in hunting rules approved by the commission for the upcoming season include:

Waterfowl: The limit for pintail ducks was increased to two birds a day in all general waterfowl seasons, due to improved conditions in their breeding areas. In addition, special seasons for hunters under age 16 will be staggered to allow an individual hunter to participate in youth hunts on both sides of the state. The special youth hunt is set for Sept. 22-23 in western Washington, followed by a youth hunt Sept. 29-30 in eastern Washington.
White-tailed deer: Hunters will be allowed to take antlerless white-tailed deer in game management units 101-121 in northeast Washington. Special permits will be available to seniors and hunters using modern firearms, while other hunters can take antlerless deer during general hunting seasons.
Elk: The early general bowhunting season for antlerless elk in the Yakima and Colockum elk herds has been reduced to six days from 13. This change, as with previous permit reductions for hunts with modern firearms and muzzleloaders, is designed to meet and sustain population objectives for those herds. The season for bull elk is not affected by this change.
The commission also approved a proposal to allow hunters to use primers designed for use in modern cartridges during muzzleloader seasons, but explicitly banned the use of “unmanned aircraft” – also known as drones – while hunting.

These and other new hunting rules will be incorporated into the 2018-19 Big Game Hunting Seasons and Regulations pamphlet, which will be available online April 19 at https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/, and at WDFW offices and hunting license vendors across the state starting the last week of this month.

The way I saw it, they eliminated the 100 cow permits that had been proposed in 328 and 329, but the early archery general season will be open for cows the last six days of the season.

experience tells me that. I went up for one day the first year they opened otc cow tags up there, wed archery hunted years before that and would see maybe one other group. Well, the year they went otc, you couldn’t find a pull out that didn’t have a car. I saw guys in lawn chairs in back of their trucks driving the roads with bows in their hands. We left and have not been back since. I refuse to hunt around those conditions. They should have gone to permits like it was before and just upped the numbers if they were worried about reducing the herd. Just my opinion

Again they will run them off the Mountain, At least last year when I Left saw big herd off I90, The last 3 years have been the worse I have seen up there, I will go set trail cams up and see them running all over the place on there Quads,

If I draw the big bull this year. Looks like the first week will be less crowded cause of that.

I am still at a loss as to why they wouldn't make the cow hunting a permit hunt, much more enjoyable for the lucky tag holders and even the people who choose to hunt spike only season.  not to mention the fact that they are leaving some application money on the table!

Lot of folks would not hunt if they didn't have the opportunity to hunt cows.  It's been said on here that they were going to have 5k hunters in district 3 for elk. How many antlerless permits? 300? 400? How many folks do you think would sit out that didn't draw?

Often times we don't take the very real slice of the equation, $.  Balance opportunity, revenue, and harvest.  Nothing about this is ideal, but at least next year it all can be revisited once a herd count is conducted.

Hopefully We have Elk in 328 next year or even a season, 6 days the cows will be toast like last year 46% of cows was archery

Yes I see that. The ones they eliminated from the proposal were the 100 archery permits they had with a season of September 8-20.
